Terms of Service
Last updated: July 15, 2026
1. Who We Are
Finaura ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance and budgeting application. These Terms of Service govern your use of Finaura, however you access it (browser, installed Progressive Web App, or otherwise).
2. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Finaura, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Finaura. If you are under 16, you may not use the Service in any way.
3. Description of the Service
Finaura is a personal budgeting and financial planning tool. It runs entirely in your browser or as an installed app. All financial data you enter is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB; there is no server that receives, stores, or processes it. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," on a best-effort basis, without any guaranteed uptime, response time, or support service level.
The following features are entirely optional and are the only ways any data ever leaves your device:
- Google Drive Sync: stores an encrypted snapshot of your data in your own Google Drive account for cross-device access.
- P2P Device Sync: transmits an encrypted snapshot directly between two of your own devices over a local network WebRTC connection. No data passes through any server we operate.
- AI Financial Assistant ("Veda"): operates entirely on-device. No queries or financial data are ever sent to any external server or AI provider.
- Contact Support / Feedback form: sends whatever you type into that specific form (name, email, category, and message) to us through a third-party form-relay service. This is the only feature where free-text you type is transmitted off your device by our own code, and it only happens when you explicitly submit it.
4. Your Device Vault (No Server Accounts)
Finaura does not use server-side user accounts. There is no sign-up, no username, and no password stored on any server we control. Instead, you set a PIN, password, or passkey directly on your device to lock the app, optionally paired with a recovery password you create during setup.
- You are solely responsible for remembering your PIN/password and recovery password, and for keeping your passkey device secure.
- Because there is no server-side account, we cannot reset your credentials, recover a forgotten PIN, or restore your data if you lose access to your device and have no backup. If you set up a recovery password and remember it, you can use it to regain access; if you lose both your primary credential and your recovery password, your locally stored data may be permanently inaccessible.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs on a device where Finaura is unlocked, and for keeping that device physically secure.
- We strongly recommend exporting a backup (Settings → Export Data) periodically and storing it somewhere safe, since we have no independent copy of your data to fall back on.
5. Your Data
All your financial data is stored on your device. You retain all rights to the data you enter into Finaura. Because we have no access to it, we cannot read it, modify it, recover it, or delete it remotely; only you can do that on your device.
- We cannot recover lost data if you delete it, clear browser storage, uninstall the app, or lose your device.
- We are not liable for data loss due to browser updates, device failure, storage clearing, or your own use of the Delete All Data feature, which is immediate and irreversible.
- We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models of any kind.
- If you use Drive sync or P2P sync, data transmitted via those features is additionally subject to the terms of the relevant third party (Google, in the case of Drive sync) or the security of your own local network, in the case of P2P sync. See our Privacy Notice for full detail.
6. Third-Party Services
Finaura is deliberately built with as few third-party dependencies as possible. The following are the only third parties involved in operating the Service, and each is opt-in except for the hosting provider that simply delivers the app's files to your browser:
- Google (Drive Sync, optional): if you enable Google Drive sync, you authorize Finaura to store an encrypted file in your own Google Drive account using Google's OAuth flow. We never receive your Google account credentials. Your use of this feature is also subject to Google's Terms of Service. We are not responsible for service interruptions, data loss, or policy changes by Google that may affect this feature.
- P2P Device Sync (optional): uses a direct WebRTC connection between devices you own, over your local network. No relay or intermediary server is used. By using this feature you acknowledge that (a) you are syncing between devices you own or control, (b) you are responsible for the security of the network the connection is established on, and (c) we are not liable for data interception on a network you do not control.
- Web3Forms (Contact Support / Feedback form, optional): if you submit the in-app Feedback form or the
/supportpage, the fields you fill in are sent to Web3Forms, a third-party form-relay service, which forwards them to us by email. Your use of that form is also subject to Web3Forms' Privacy Policy. - Hosting (not optional, involves no financial data): the Finaura web app and marketing pages are delivered by a static web hosting provider. That provider necessarily sees standard web-server request metadata (such as your IP address and browser type) in order to deliver files to you, the same as any website. It never receives your financial data, since that data is never sent anywhere by the app in the first place.
Finaura does not connect to your bank accounts or any financial institution. There is no Plaid integration, no bank-linking feature, and no automatic transaction import from any financial provider. Every transaction, balance, and account in Finaura is entered manually or imported by you from a file (such as a CSV) that you provide.
7. Billing and Payments
Finaura is currently provided free of charge. We do not process payments, charge subscription fees, or collect or store any payment card or billing information anywhere in the app.
If this ever changes and Finaura introduces a paid plan or feature, we will update these Terms to add the relevant billing terms (including who processes payment, refund policy, and applicable taxes) and will notify users of that change through the in-app "What's New" notification before any paid feature is enabled, in addition to updating the "Last updated" date on this page.
8. Not Financial Advice
Important Disclaimer
Finaura provides financial calculations, projections, and estimates for informational purposes only. Nothing in this app, including responses from the AI Financial Assistant, constitutes professional financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. We are not a bank, broker, accountant, tax advisor, or financial advisor.
- Tax estimates are approximations based on publicly available rate tables and may not reflect your actual tax liability.
- Investment projections assume constant rates of return and do not account for market volatility.
- FIRE and retirement projections are illustrative estimates, not guarantees of future performance.
- Debt payoff timelines are estimates and do not account for fees, penalties, or changes in interest rates.
- AI assistant responses are generated from your local data using pattern matching; they may contain errors or omissions.
- You are solely responsible for all financial decisions you make. Consult a qualified professional for advice specific to your situation.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Finaura is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including but not limited to:
- Accuracy or completeness of financial calculations or AI assistant responses
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation
- Compatibility with all browsers, devices, or operating system versions
- Availability or reliability of Drive sync, P2P sync, or any other optional feature
- Accuracy or completeness of any data you import from a third-party file or service
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under mandatory law that applies to you.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to circumvent or bypass the PIN, password, passkey, or recovery-password lock screen through any means.
- Use the app to store or process another person's financial data without their explicit consent.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract proprietary algorithms or source code from the app beyond what applicable law expressly permits.
- Use P2P sync to connect to any device you do not own or are not authorized to sync with.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems used to deliver the Service, or interfere with its proper functioning.
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service or its underlying infrastructure without permission.
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise provide the Service to third parties as part of a commercial offering.
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
11. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, source code, text, graphics, and other content, is owned by Finaura and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without express permission.
If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service (including through the Contact Support form), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use that feedback to improve the Service. We are not obliged to act on any feedback we receive.
12. AI Financial Assistant
The AI Financial Assistant ("Veda") is provided as a convenience tool. Its responses are generated entirely from your local data using an on-device, pattern-based query engine; it does not use any cloud-based large language model. You agree not to rely on assistant responses as the sole basis for significant financial decisions. We make no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of assistant responses.
13. Termination
There is no server-side account for us to suspend or terminate. You may stop using Finaura, and permanently delete all locally stored data, at any time from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete All Data. This action is immediate and irreversible.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue hosting the Finaura web app or its optional server-dependent features (such as Drive sync's signaling, or the Feedback form) at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. Because Finaura is an installable, offline-first app, a device that already has it installed will generally continue to function locally on data already stored there even if we were to stop hosting or updating the Service, though optional features that depend on a third party (like Drive sync) would no longer be reachable.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Finaura shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to losses arising from reliance on AI assistant responses, P2P sync failures, or Drive sync interruptions, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Because Finaura is provided free of charge with no payment collected from you, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service shall not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Finaura from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the Service, or (c) your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
16. Force Majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, terrorism, civil unrest, pandemic, strikes or labor disputes, internet or telecommunications outages, infrastructure failures at upstream hosting or service providers, or governmental action.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Because Finaura has no server-side accounts or email addresses on file, we cannot notify you individually by email. Instead, we will notify you of material changes through the in-app "What's New" notification the next time you open the app, and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
18. Notices
We will give you notices through the Service itself (such as the in-app "What's New"
notification) or by updating this page. You may give us notices by using the in-app
Feedback form or the /support page.
19. Assignment, Severability, and Entire Agreement
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights under them without our prior consent. We may assign these Terms without your consent in connection with a reorganization, the formation of a legal entity to operate the Service, or a transfer of the Service to a successor operator; we will notify you if this happens.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not waive that right or provision.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Notice, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject matter.
20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall first be pursued through good-faith negotiation, and, failing that, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in South Dakota.
Nothing in this section deprives you of any protection you are entitled to under the mandatory consumer protection laws of your own country or state of residence that cannot be limited or waived by agreement, if those laws apply to you.
